How do you appropriately game plan for your first game in DIII? I have no results go by to see if they are shooting outside/inside, etc.

Do I evaluate player rankings and try to figure them out?

Ratings, it is about all you have to go on. Possibly last years stats if you'd like.

try all zeros for a few games and start adjusting as you see fit

No offense, but I never really liked that answer, because a few games just isn't indicative of anything relevant at all as far as who's better and who isn't. It wouldn't be remotely surprising to see crappier players outperform better ones over just a few games.

He's talking about defense. But as far as this goes, I've never went with the all 0s approach even my first season. You should be able to look at your roster and know who your best scorers should be and set the distro accordingly. After a few games if things are going differently than you expected then you should adjust.

As for defensive setting with nothing previous to go on you just have to go by ratings and as was said maybe look at last seasons stats.

One more question:

You can't take away a particular individuals ability to shoot threes? I have one guy on the other team that I want to stop from shooting threes.

The best you can do is guard them more closely with a + defense. Your ability to shut them down is more a product of your players' defense and IQ.
