I just took over UTEP with D+ prestige and 7 empty slots. My general question is, how high is too high when aiming for recruits?

Are 3 and 4 star guys out of my range for the first couple seasons? Is aiming for guys ranked 50-60 at their position too high? 70-80?

At D2 the highest-ranked players I saw signed were in the 140s, so I assume everything above that is truly D1 material (potential held constant here). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Your comments helped me a lot at D2.

I'd stick with 1-2 stars and an occasional 3 star if hes local and you got the money. Guys above 70 or so should be around where you aim.

1 or2 star guys with high potential. Stay local. 3 star players will be a back up option for them.

I would say that as a D+ team your best hope is about the 50th at their position, but in El Paso, no one else is really local, and with 7 open, you could maybe get into the 30s if they are within 200 miles, and no big 12 school is after them and you have the ability to drop 40k on them.

1 or 2 star guys with high potential sounds right, esp if they know your O and D

Yeah, I'm slightly regretting not taking a D prestige Metro conference school in NY to have more local options.

I just beat a guy with your D1 prestige for a 1 star recruit from a D2 school w/ A+ prestige. furry is dead-on though... seek 1 star and 2 star recruits locally and spend little money on them, then try to snag a 3 star with your remaining money. You'll probably need to spend as much on that 3 star as you do on the rest of your recruits.
