Recruiting Question Topic

Got an email from a player saying he wanted to play for me so I started recruiting him. The next cycle I see that he has my team (Div III B+ prestige) and a Div II, prestige B- team both listed as considering. The distance is also very close, I'm in the same state while the DII school is the bordering state. Since we are both listed under considering, is there any chance at this guy or do I simply give up and spend my money elsewhere? Since we are both being considered it makes me feel like I have a shot but common sense tells me this would be a waste of money. Thoughts? Thanks

That's what I thought but why would we both be listed as considered?

Because he is considering attending both of your schools.

Understood this much. What I don't understand is if a player is considering both a Div II and Div III school, how much chance does the Div III school have? In my understanding, if you are listed as being considered you have a chance at him but this is the first I've seen Div II and Div III listed.

You will not be able to reasonably win a battle. What you might want to do is offer a scholarship and just wait. The only real chance you have is for the DII school to find other options and pass on your guy.

Thanks, appreciate the help!

Got the guy to sign with me. I'm sure it had more to do with the Div II school not doing anything else to recruit him but I'll take it!

When a D3 recruit is considering a D2 human team, I've found that he's generally a backup option to the D2 team. Pay attention to who else is considering him and basically wait to see if he signs his first option. If he does, then you have a good shot.

look at the recruits the other school is considering and how many ships they have...you can get an idea if they are committed to recruiting the kid or f he might just be a back-up option that way...
