I play Triangle. Always. I looked over my settings and they are all set to triangle.

In last nights game late in the 2nd half I saw this...

Purdue is playing a spread offense and a 2-3 zone defense (-3)

Is this a common thing or is something wrong?

Its common...there were only 20 seconds to go and the sim is acting in "your best interest". I questioned/complained about the same thing, that its overriding my/your settings (which it is) and I think one can still make an/the argument for that, however I've accepted this as a normal practice of the game and really have no problems with it.

... it does that in every game when someone has a comfortable lead within a minute .

Why would you want to do something else when you have a really big lead with a minute or less ?

You are still running your offense, just a spread version of it. It's what pretty much every RL team I've ever seen has done at the end of a game with a lead.

if the engine didnt do this, people would get all bent out of shape because in the last minute it didnt do the obvious smart thing and run some clock

You've played HOW MANY season?

Thats a DIII noob question.
