T. Borbon. AA currently. 21 years old. Should hit his projections (or pretty dang close). Projections are

80-sta 47-con 61-vL 84-vR 17-vel 71-GB/FB 80-81-65 (pitches 1-3)

There's that dang control issue! But he throws GB's, has a great vR, and great 1-2 pitches.

I've got two young guys coming who should be very strong top of the order guys....Can Borbon be successful as a #4 type?

He'll probably be a below-average SP -- an innings-eater, but inconsistent.

The 47 CN means he'll give up more walks than average. The 17 VE means he'll have a lot fewer Ks than average. So it'll be crucial that you have an excellent D behind him to turn DPs by the bushel and help him avoid getting pummelled.

The vR and the pitch quality will help him, to be sure.

BB/9, season to season, will vary from 4-6 or so

K/9 will be in the region of 5-6

I have a 200 game winner with 55 CON and an 81/82 vRH rating and good pitches. Dwight Johnson, Durham. Look him up.

He confounds all the "low control guys can't pitch" posters.

55 is much better than 47. 47 is also projected, leading me to believe that 45 will be a positive if he can get that far. Plus you guy's vL split is significantly better. While those may not be key differences, they are differences that can make a difference.

Wins alone doesn't mean much either. Maybe he won a lot of 10-8 games. I didn't look him up and I don't care enough to bother.

Yes, he's a BL pitcher. 80 vr and 2x80 pitches. Anyone who says he isn't has some insane "He must have control of 70 before I'll consider him!!!" policy.

No way a 17 VE is going to get him 5-6 K/9.

I agree he's a big-league pitcher, but one who will be inconsistent and probably struggle to have a WHIP of less than 1.40.

I see his projections playing out similar to the way sanderbear sees them. One other thing to consider-- in my experience SP with big platoon splits don't pitch quite as well as I'd expect, because good owners are loading their lineups with the guys they can't get out. So he's probably a bit worse than you'd expect.

Anyway, mtd, it's moot for this guy, who has almost stopped developing and is clearly AAA only right now. But the projected ratings play at the back of a rotation.

Yeah, I don't think he gets anywhere near what MTD thinks he will. But, if he did, he'd do well enough to be a SP on a good team.

I don't like low control guys, but that guy should be a usable MLB player. At the very least, I would give him his 3-4 pre-arb years and see what kind of numbers he puts up.

Looks like a very solid LR to me.
