Question from a vet Topic

I should probably know this by now, as I know people have asked why sometimes they have an extra non-conf. game every so often, but why in D3 where there is 384 teams (32 conferences of 12 teams) are there those "odd, 11th" games for some teams. No matter what humans schedule or don't, there should be a "match" for every team, every week. Then again, I could have overlooked something obvious that is staring me right in the face. Somebody want to clear this up for me?

I've wondered the same thing

Has anyone ever seen a team with only nine Non conference games?

I've seen nine on very rare occasions. The company line from WIS seems to be that the extra game comes from not wanting to match Sim teams from the same conference up in an OOC game, therefore they end up getting the eleventh game. It's actually a bogus excuse, because as ericb said, every team should have a match. In my line of work, I have to do schedules all the time, and my personal feeling is that it's a bug in the programming that is causing this to happen.

I agree. Has to be a bug. Maybe it is along the lines of SIM recruiting class exception (where they are allowed larger class sizes). With that said, maybe there isn't a HARD RULE in place for the Sim to no play one another in the non. conf. slate. Again, though, there should be a match. Actually I think I just confused myself even more. Bottom line, it just doesn't make much sense.

The issue is that noncon games cannot be between conference mates.

This constraint screws up the "match for every team" logic since sometimes the only matches could be from the same conference.

To get to the other side.

While true, I've seen the nine games and eleven games scheduled that could have been avoided while following this constraint. More damning, I have seen non-conference games between conference mates.
