Rule 5 and Revocable Waivers Topic

Perhaps unsurprisingly, my ticket exchange so far has been the exact opposite.

Can a Rule 5 acquisition be traded after the transaction deadline?

Yes but only if they have cleared waivers. Placing a rule 5 player on normal waivers starts the offer back process but you can place them on revocable waivers.

We'll see what happens next... moustachee, do you have access to your ticket? If so, could you paste the applicable language here, as well as the ticket number so that I can reference it if need be?

gotta love that.. looks like I gave up after 2 months of nothing out of them. But the only response with any "rule definition" from them came up front, and they said the opposite of what they told you.

The rest of the ticket is in dealing with the fact that 2 different Rule 5 players were handled differently (which would explain why it's worked out for you before), and they claimed it's a rare occurrence (and never tracked it down according to my ticket)

I placed Rule 5 players Ty Unroe and Pedro Crespo on *reversible* waivers. I did not realize that placing Rule 5 players on reversible waivers would automatically offer them back to their former teams. Is that correct? Because it happened, and I lost Crespo due to that. If incorrect, I would like Crespo back. (He was returned to his former team--the Buffalo Soldiers)

However, the issue that really seems like a mistake is with Unroe. He was NOT accepted by his former team--thus, he was on the waiver wire. Shouldn't he have been returned to me after any claims since they were reversible waivers after the trade deadline? As it stands, the Baltimore Billikens claimed him and got him.

Additionally, another team in our league says he placed 2 Rule 5 players on reversible waivers, and neither of the above 2 problems happened to him. His players were not offered back to their former teams, nor were they able to be taken by other teams. They were normal reversible waiver players.

I don't know why some teams should get this benefit and not all. The rule needs to be consistent, and I think all Rule 5 players who were claimed since the trade deadline should be returned due to the inconsistency.

The rule is consistent. If you place a rule 5 player on waivers, regular or revocable, it starts the offer back process. If they clear waivers, they are first offered back to the original team, and then if that owner doesn't want them back, then he remains on your team having cleared waivers.

If the other owner waived rule 5 players, they went through the same thing.

(***I added a lot of info in my ticket to them, but it's not really relevant***)

Something doesn't seem right. I've added this to our bug list and we'll see if we can replicate what you are describing. Thanks for letting us know.

Unfortunately at this time we won't be transferring those player's around. We will be looking into this and subsequently fixing it in the coming weeks.

I'm still trying to track it down, it is a very rare occurrence.

Just got a ticket response.

They were apparently unaware that we couldn't put a Rule 5 player on revocable waivers and will "look into" the change for a future update.
3/2/2010 3:48 PM
did you ask them about the inconsistency in their response?

And/or about how when you used to be able to do it, it wasn't always handled as revocable waivers? Just curious...if they re-enable it and the same problems come up, I won't be happy to lose someone..
3/2/2010 3:52 PM
Here's my ticket. They didn't really address much of anything.

Ticket #87249.

That's what I thought (and what it has been in the past) but when I just recently tried to place a Rule 5 guy on revocable waivers (for the purpose of having him available to trade) I got the following error message -

"Error: None of your roster moves could be added due to the following reasons:

Roger Russell is a current Rule 5 draft pick. Rule 5 draft picks can not be placed on revokable waivers."

If this was an unintentional change/bug, what should I do to make him available to trade?

If the change was intentional, what is the rationale behind making it so Rule 5 guys cannot be traded after the deadline?

It appears as though you can not place a Rule 5 player on revocable waivers. We'll look into to adding this in a future update. Thanks for pointing it out.

ok, well i hope that they test it thoroughly enough when they re-add the feature so that the issues don't pop up again

"Hope" never really dies, does it?
