?’s on my 1st DI recruiting class Topic

First, thanks in advance for any help/advice given. I'm getting ready for my 1st DI recruiting class and have some general questions, but feel free to give any advice at all, whether it's an answer to a specific ? or not.
In DII (avg. B+-A) I'm used to doing 1 home visit, maybe 2 and being considered. Should I expect the same at DI? If not, will it usually take more or less?
Once a player was considering me at DII, I would usually throw 1 campus visit + 1 home visit at him and he was mine. The same at DI?
In DII I would shotgun for DI recruits, look for the "back-up" answer and then go after him. If I'm going after a 4 or 5 Star recruit at DI will I look for the "back-up" answer? Is there any scenario at DI that is similar to going after a drop down in DII?
Thanks in advance again, and once more, ANY and ALL DI recruiting advice is needed and appreciated...so FIRE AWAY! (LOL)

I question how good your classes were at D2 if you were spending so little per recruit (no pull-downs? no battles?).

It's been posted on here many times, and I found it to be true in my first D1 recruiting: If you're not getting into battles in D1 you're not aiming high enough.

With my first (current) class it varied from $3,000 spent to $40k+.

Not really. It depends on your prestige relative to how good the player is, but you should plan on it taking more than that.

Not even remotely close. There are way, way more battles at DI, and it is quite common to spend tens of thousands of dollars to win a battle for a coveted recruit. You have to be very aware of who you're battling, your respective distances from the recruit, prestiges, budgets and additional battles.

Yes, dropdowns do exist in DI for the lower tier teams. Any team that's ~ C or better can go after just about anyone, below that it's a sliding scale. D- schools can only talk to no star and 1-star recruits, and you'd generally have to be about a D+ before 2-stars will talk to you off the bat. You can put in calls to players to find out if they're open to dropping down, but those low prestige DI schools will not have any chance to pursue a 4/5-star players.

Your schools is a D-, don't even bother making phone calls to 3/4/5 star players. Some 2-stars might be dropdowns for you, especially if they're located w. in 70 miles, so you can try a few, but otherwise might be out of your range. You're likely looking at no star and 1-star recruits, so you just need to find the ones you like that have good potential in the areas that are important to you.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing there might be threads on this. It sounds like you need a lot of guidance at this point, so I would try to seek some out. I would also sitemail some top coaches directly.

Because of battles (you will have them if you aim high enough) you want to try and recruit as local as you can. If you don't have guys within two hundred miles that you like then obviously you will do what you have to do. It's get's costly when you venture away though.

You have a D- prestige, so its the same as d2 pull downs. Nobody over one star will even look your way. I'd be very patient, and maybe look for a couple juco players who will drop earlier than others rated as high as them. If you want to wait a couple of years, take your time, wait for players with cores in the HIgh 60s-70s and high potential. Stars is not everything in d1 tho. Some great players have come my way in a d school.

The good news is that you have a lot of open scholarships, so you can afford to battle over a few 1-star type of players. I'd stay within 200 miles for battles, maybe a little bit farther out if you have a very significant distance advantage and it might be the top guy you can land.

It also gives you the ability to scout more states with FSS. I'd consider all of the NE, plus other states in the mid-atlantic or midwest that may be within 500 miles or so.

And remember that you won't find the perfect player, but you can find guys that will produce during their 4 years. Try to project what that is based on their potential, knowing that at this level, you'll likely have to sacrifice in one rating to get a high one in another.

Expect to spend a minimum of $3k for recruits if nobody else gets involved, and at least $10k (likely more with a D-) if you get into a battle.
