Speaking on this subject, what is that not very obvious way that you check a players ML service time on their player card? If anyone would be so kind as to remind me.

Hover your cursor over the ML years #

I just did the math... but not sure if I'm totally correct on this so if somebody can confirm I'd appreciate it.... 26 days on the ML roster on the first day of roster expansion, then wait 28 ML days the following season and he it won't count as an ML service year.

I think I'll wait 30 days just in case but I think I should be safe with 28, correct?

32 would be safer. After 20 days in the minors, count how many games on the ML schedule add the off days plus the 3 day AS break then add the 26 days accumulated the previous season.

If it adds up to 171 or less, the player will not gain that year of ML service. A player needs 172 days on the ML roster to gain service time.

I disagree with all of you. Yorvit Mercedes played 22 games at AA before being called up, yet still incurred an entire year of ML service time, thus he is hitting arbitration 1 year earlier than expected.

He played 42 ML games in S11 plus S12. His S13 (where had 22 minor league games) was added to those days he had prior to S13 to equal his 1st ML season. S14 was his 2nd ML season. S15 will be his third.

You are free to disagree if you like, but you'd be wrong.
