How do you determine which players will take the demotion hits in larger numbers or smaller numbers?

Does it have to do with makeup and temper?

He was drafted last year #2 overall, spent some time in rookie ball, some time in Low-A and then this year BOOM. 60 games at AAA (where he dominated) and just called him up to the majors. Ideally for his development I feel like he'd be best suited at AA or AAA right now, but he is 22 and his bat could be decent at the ML level right now. My focus is just to get him to those projected ratings and have a HOFer rather than a very good player. So upon getting him on my team do I demote and risk whatever penalty might ensue? Or do I roll with him at the ML level and hope he can develop there?

whats his makeup and patience ratings?

i'd demote him, although he'll develop just fine at the ML level since i'm assuming he won't be overwhelmed...

just know you'll be burning his cheap pre-arb years on him while he's not developed to his full potential...

Send him to AAA and don't sweat it. Or play him in the bigs.

Yes saving his pre-arb years is also a huge part of it for me. I'd rather burn those when he's at least 80s across the board, rather than 70s like he is now. I work on a fairly limited payroll, so those dollars are huge for me.

But my bigger concern is thwarting his development at that expense. If I had to choose between the two I'd go with his development every time.

That's what I was leaning towards as well. I figure if I demote him and he takes even a big hit he's still a great player in the future. Perhaps not a HOFer, but still a guy to build around.

Also his makeup rating is superb, like 86 or so, patience is a little lower but still not terrible ... in the 60s.
