I need advice to save a friendship! Topic

I recruited a friend and co-worker to join a league and conference with me. I have a minimum level of experience, but still more then a true rookie.

He has asked me for advice......I have told him I won't give him an answer, because if it backfires, I will have to still be his co-worker!!

Would somebody look at Phelan, Mount Union.......he wants me to tell him if he should revoke the 'ship on one of his Guards or SF so he will have three Freshaman recruits. The guy he cuts, I just might try and recruit as a transfer (yeah bad idea too...I know!).

No pressure, but one-hour till recruiting starts....thanks!

You can wait until signings start.

he's not going to get extra money if he pulls a scholarship.

he's already at a disadvantage since he's new to the game. revoking a scholarship is even more of a disadvantage. Since now he has three openings, but money for only two.

tell him that the first season a coach recruits is a learning experience. Its better that he only has two openings. Less to screw up.

Next season he will have six openings. So more cash and a season of experience under his belt.

I made that same mistake my first season, and he knows that. However he has this idea since he loses all his big men after this season, and all his guards after next season, that if he has three freshman this year, he can have one "semi-experienced guard" The guy he wants to cut is his leading returning scorer too!! SF, 20 speed , not a good athlete, and low rebounding........BUT a three point threat.

I would take him with my team. He may just me messing with my head too!!

When you are new and just starting my advice about cutting players is always if you cut someone don't expect to fill his 'ship that same year (ie taking a walk-on and holding it over to the next recruiting period), if things work out as recruiting goes on and you can afford to sign that extra player then by all means do it, but I wouldn't stretch yourself that much in one of your first recruiting classes.

Your friend should just see if he has enough money to get 3 decent recruits considering him before he considers cutting that kid. He is slow, but for DIII, he plays defense and scores. I would hold him.
