Caruthers part 2 Topic

Anyone else starting to feel that if you don't draft Joss '08 that you'll be at a disadvantage in the playoffs? His numbers are on the "stud" level and for 342 IP he's way too cheap.

I try to stay away from cookies unless there's nobody close to them $/PA or (old Phillips) or $/IP-wise. Even with Caruthers he was most definitely a cookie, but you could never consider a SP with a .230 OAV a dependable playoff "stud" so this situation is the same, but different. 197-.208# OAV with barely over 1 BB/9 most certainly is. It used to be difficult to put together a staff using high IP/low OAV SP and still put a respectable offense on the field. Now its just way too easy.

Joss is just way too cheap. Before long 75% of teams will be using him. He's not the only one, but he's the FOTM cookie for now and he's gaining steam bigtime.

I agree...he's the best player out there right now. I've been using him a long time and the incentive now is even greater.

Well I'm going to go ahead and totally disagree. I am a debater. Joss still costs over $37,000/IP. 1300 innings of that quality are going to cost you about $49 million. I generally prefer to buy cheaper starters and put more money into my bullpen and offense. FWIW, I prefer '15 Alexander at $40k/IP when I do want a stud starter.

You should also check out '08 Christy Mathewson. Cheaper than Joss for similar numbers.

My impression is that the SIM dropped the prices of the deadball pitchers because they were supposed to negatively effect your team's fielding %.

Personally, I haven't seen enough evidence of this to justify the reduction in prices.

Beaneball, I think you are underestimating how those errors will add up. I am currently in a league that is split between modern era (> y.1970) and deadball (< y.1920) pitchers. The deadballers are giving up way more unearned runs.

IMHO, the real problem is how cheap all pitching has become. '95 Maddux-- perhaps the best pitcher with over 200ip in the sim-- is only $11M, or about $45K/ ip.

It's gonna be hard to use the '95 maddux in an OL without hurting the rest of your team. And how much was the maddux before the last update? I remember him as being similarly priced.

He was 51k/IP if I remember correctly.

Well I have used him twice since the update.I don't see any thing special out of him.Would rather have Greg Maddux myself 94 or 95.
