That is worse than decimated. Decimated is one of the most misused words in English. To decimate means to reduce by 1/10th. It originates from the Roman policy of killing every 10th soldier in a unit charged with cowardice. You can also derive the meaning directly from the Latin in this word.
A better description would be that the roster was "ravaged". This is an underused word that actually fits the meaning better - meaning to "almost destroy". Obliterate also fits, but is a little over-the-top.
I am off my high-horse on misused Latin vocabulary now. :)
