with that stamina, he was probably not going to contribute much. honestly, you would always be better off taking a walk on than taking a guy you think will be a backup at best as an upperclassmen, even if you have multiple walkons for the next season. the only way i would recruit a career backup if he was supposed to be the 6th man and a critical part of your offense (top 2 leading scorers or so), but you would probably never start him (in a big class, with defense you aren't really willing to start, for example). iq is important, but 1 season between 2 players is not that drastic. by tournament time, you are usually looking at less than 1 grade between a freshman and a sophmore, and it only gets smaller from there.
