What is the best way to try to recuit a dropdown? Should I try early on to show my interest despite always getting the " I'm thinking I'll be at a big time program but you're a backup option" email or just send a phone call and then wait till after signings to go full force?

If you have given the phone call and got the "I'll be at a big program" message then just wait. You will get a follow up message if they drop down to you. It should contain something like "I don't no what I was thinking, let's talk" or "Joe Blow is back on the board".

Dont forget the lower your prestige you have the lower your chances opf gettign a decent drop are. They drop to schools based on prestige first.

if you get the backup message though the player can be pulled-down. It can be expensive past 360 miles. Usually takes me between 10-15 evals...

yes for lower prestige teams this is the best way to go and is worth the risk in order to reach that better prestige and then get the chance at the better drops.
