Blocking After Deadline trades Topic

Anyone have a problem with teams that are not in the playoff race anymore late in the season, and use their high waviers status to claim and block trades from other teams?

I just did this on accident. (Usually I am in it and claim anyone I like) Just wondering if it is just part of the game or an ******* thing to do?

it happens in MLB, and it's a normal part of the game.

Part of the game.

Especially since you can never tell for certain whether a player is on revocable waivers or just waivers, and (among other reasons) once questionable draft picks come back with increased demands, owners may just be looking to free up cash for transfer.

Definitely. I picked up my a quality closer for my rebuilding team this way. Guess the other guy needed cash or hit the wrong button. Either way, I'm glad I scour the waiver wire every day.

I claim anyone who can help my team. I'm not worried about your team. That goes for the owner waiving players and the owner hoping to claim players.

Mike and I agree.

There may be only about 2 or 3 things in the whole of HBD that can be said for, so feel confident that your claiming of players after the deadline is just fine.

Interestingly in the actual MLB it used to be considered standard practice to not claim players that teams were trying to send through after the deadline. Then a few GMs wised up and realized there was no reason to have good manners when claiming these players allowed them to gain a competitive advantage. Now it's done all the time.

One difference between MLB and HBD is the fact that we have to figure out if it is revocable before we put them on waivers, whereas the MLB teams can revoke waivers after the player is claimed.

While it's frustrating to have a player claimed by a team which doesn't want to trade for him, I realize that it happens in the real world and is part of the game.

I also know that putting one of my players on revokable waivers will put me at a disadvantage with the team which claims him, but there's a reason why I waived him (demote, remove from 40, get out of next year's contract, etc.), so I'm not expecting to get 100% "fair value" for him.

If they help my team I claim them. Last season I claimed an average RP late in the season. The owner pulled him back and got really mad at me for claiming him because I was the only owner he could trade him to. I wanted him but I was not willing to give up a decent prospect for him. I would have traded an AAA player easily. The rp contract was ending after the season so I would have had him for 20 to 25 games.

Like MikeT said I dont care about your team. If it makes my team better than I do it.
