Sophomore playing time Topic

Anybody ever get an email from a sophomore crying about playing "only" 8 minutes and wanting 2 or 3 more minutes? I have never had a sophomore request 10 or 11 minutes (until yesterday morning and accompanied by a -2 WE hit), they've always been OK with 7 or 8.

Cust. support says nothing has changed, every player is different, etc.

I had it happen this season in Tark. Can't remember if it's happened before but I've generally always been able to get soph's 10+ minutes. Just up his minutes a couple of games you'll get an email from him saying something like he knew he could count on you. Although is WE won't go back up unless you continue to give him those minutes, it won't decrease any and he'll stop complaining.

Happens all the time. I see it sometimes when minutes do not increase (or go down) from the previous season.

And that does make sense. Players should not be happy having less playing time as they get older. They naturally want more playing time.

I've seen it often, usually when a sophomore is 3rd string. When I anticipate that situation, I'll platoon the sophomore at 2nd string every 2-3 games. I rarely have a complaint then

When I've seen it, it has usually been when mpg go down from the fr yr or the guy is still the 11th or 12th man and didn't get into a game or 2.

last time I saw it (last season) from a soph who got considerably worse over the summer, wasn't that great to begin with, and was 3rd string behind a true freshman. I moved him off the depth chart completely and cut his ungrateful *** after the season (with a corresponding reputation hit from B-to C) but it was worth it to show the team who is in charge...

ahaaa, I think that's it right there for my situation. He is listed 3rd on my depth chart, though for a couple of games sometime before he complained I did have him as an immediate backup. Thanks al.

And I checked his minutes vs. last season just to see if this was the case as well. He played 7.6mpg last season vs. 8mpg at the time he sent me his message, so I think I can rule this part out.

Remember, too, that you don't have to pull up his average minutes to 10 or 11 mpg. He just has to average 10-11 minutes from now on to be happy.

I had one goofus, though, who still complained even after I gave him what he wanted. Apparently, he added 7 minutes +3 minutes and came up with 8. I contacted WIS and they assured me he wouldn't quit the team.

I don't know of Sophs ever quitting the team over playing time, unless they were juco and it was promised in recruiting. WE is just another area of development that requires mimutes devoted to it. In this case it is playing minutes.

I have the same situation going on now, but I hate to put him in 2nd on the depth chart because I have a really good team for the first time ever, and the 2 players ahead of him are both good. I was hoping with the blowouts that we are getting frequently that he would play more, and I have him at 3 positions at 3rd string. I am going to try putting him at 4th string today since it should be a blowout and maybe he will come in more since I have it set to give reserves more playing time when the game is out of reach. I need this player a lot next year, so I don't want to lose him. He is threatening to leave.

In the anticapted blowouts, put him at backup at one position and 3rd string at 1 or 2 more. He should get at least 20 minutes if you have a big lead

I have had that happen several times but only did something about it at the end of the year.
I started the Center (who could only block a few shots) in the last game against the worst team in the nation.
My team, ranked #23 in the RPI and polls escaped with a double OT win.
Since his work ethic was already 94 and declined to 79 maybe it did not hurt him that much in the long run that he did not play much as a Soph.

I have a sophomore who is complaining about time, but I want him to transfer because he stinks and I want another scholarship. Will I get hurt bad in loyalty if he transfers?
