Recruiting changes? Topic

Has something been changed to recruiting that I did not read about?

The last few seasons at American U. I was lucky to land a 2 star each season and a couple of 1 stars.

Last season during the end of recruiting I had some extra cash and went after a 3 star that already had 2 B+ recruiting him and dropped $4000 on him and landed him. Mind you this player was 500+ miles away for me and less than 100 for one team and less than 250 for the other.

This year I said to heck with it and went after only 3 star recruits with 6 scholies open.

#247 Overall | #39 SG 597 4 20 Manassas, VA $11,645 Signed

#149 Overall | #37 C 601 4 710 Gainesville, FL $11,734 Signed

#206 Overall | #38 PG 574 4 380 Sneedville, TN $6,383 Signed

#222 Overall | #30 SF 596 4 130 Philadelphia, PA $5,301 Signed

#160 Overall | #42 PF 583 4 340 Whitesburg, KY $4,624 Signed

Only promised two of these 3 stars playing time and fought a couple sim teams as well as player teams for them. Granted the player coached teams were C and C+ but I am still only a D+ that has had the highest of a 126 RPI over the last 4 seasons which was last season.

And no I have not made an appearance any any post season tourny in 4 seasons, not won any league championships or conference tourny. The best I have finished in conference was .500 the last 2 seasons.

Evidently from what I am experiencing is that progression and raising a team from the bottom up, gives as much recruiting power as a higher rating does.

1. Just a thought but Phelan could be a little bit sparse up in the North East for the Lower Middle schools that would be going after the 3 stars that your speaking of.

2. One three star wouldn't be a huge win in my head. But this year with 6-7 scholarships open teams could have stayed away from you not wanting to battle over the guys you were going after.

3. Your not to be mean but your 52% win percentage all time makes ask. Are you sure these are truly of 3 star level? I mean just because they have a 3 star rating doesn't mean 2 and 1 star players are not better than them. Thats just my thought though.

4. Also they could have the high ratings now but they have no real room for improvement on the FSS. That kinda goes along with #3 though as well.

That might explain it, they haven't brought anything from the beta to this yet, to my knowledge.

What does that have to do with anything? Maybe his alias is lostmyth for all you know.

Not to be mean, but do YOUR 15 seasons make you an expert on how good recruits can and can't be? Unless YOUR alias is lostmyth, probably not. Didn't you just finish YOUR first season of D1? Does that somehow make you an expert on 3 star recruits?

I don't know if you meant to come off as condescending with your post, but it certainly read that way to me.........

And yes, my post was meant to come off as condescending, just so there's no confusion.

I was not confused.

Not to be mean but looking at your own coaching career it would appear you have a nasty habit of picking up good teams or teams that have done well prior to your arrival, running them into the ground and then moving on.

Hamline 28-3 with a 59 RPI the year prior to you taking them and then you ran them into a 17-12 109 RPI team.

Queens 24-6 44 RPI one year prior and after 2 seasons you took them to 19-11 40 RPI where they are still nose diving.

So looking at my win % is fine but at least I only took over one team that was doing well when I got there and it in the same shape. My current stint I am actually proud of seeing what I have managed to do in 4 seasons there.

I kinda did the same thing last season in my Rupp World...don't think it's that shocking.

Maybe just a really good recruiting job you did castorhos..

May have been a combination of a few different things southern and thanks.

The only reason I questioned any of it was from everything I read prior to ever starting here. There are still stickies and threads that boil down not going against higher prestige schools and everything else during recruiting. If this is not the case or there are exceptions to the rules those threads may need updated or removed if too out of date.

Thank you for those of you that gave any input.

castor, it's all about right place, right time. You definitely had some good luck in that the B+ schools had no money into this kid, and/or maybe were just using him as a backup. If they had wanted to battle, you would've had a serious fight on your hands.

And in general, any player that you sign for $4-11K doesn't really constitute a battle. I'm sure that the players in question were indeed considering another team at various points, but even a moderate amount of effort from a C+ team would've caused you to have to spend a lot more. (Not saying that you couldn't have won, only that you would've had to spend a lot more.)

Regardless, nice job on signing a good class, keep up the good work ... and one of these days, be prepared for a battle that's going to cost you tens of thousands! Best of luck ...

A lot depends on what the player's potentials are, but even if they are only so-so, that's still a pretty nice class for a D+ prestige. Congrats and nice job!!

Thank you angmar. Thanks for the input everyone.
