Many of you might not remember, but the first star coach at this was named plumpy, he got to d1 first, got to duke in d1, and won the first d3 title in tark (I think)

the plumpster beat me in the D3 NT in year one of Tark. I think he had lost interest by then and did it with one hand tied behind his back. I really wanted that one. It would have been my claim to fame. As it is, it still probably was my claim to fame.

no love for the lower divisions? a great feat in d1 is clearly more impressive than the same thing in d2/d3. but i think some of those lower division feats are pretty damn impressive in their own right.

for example, it took OR 25 seasons to put together 8 titles at uconn. is that is more impressive than the 8 titles he won at w conn state in just 15 seasons? i have no idea, but they are both damn impressive. i think the 5 titles he won in d1 in 8 seasons are more impressive than any comparable length of time at w conn state, but to maintain over a 50% championship rate for 15 seasons, that is pretty baffling. id be curious to hear what OR thought about it - OR, if you are reading this, how would you stack up winning 8 d3 titles in 15 years vs 8 d1 titles in 25? do you feel one was significantly harder?

and oldave, what about rail's 8 titles in 9 seasons? i mean come on, that is just insanity. he won 9 total there in 12 seasons, i think that would fit in the highest category of anything, whatever you decided to call it :)

The best run/dynasty ever regardless of division is by FAAAAAAAR Rails at West Chester PA in Tark DII.

He won 9 championships in a 19 seasons. Won a championship had a S16 and Runner up then won 5 in a row, then a S16 then 3 more championships in a row. Also had 2 more S16, an Elite 8, and aFinal Four.

I agree that winning titles at DII/DIII is just much, much easier than DI. I do think that's what clearly separates OR from Rails, is that basically all of Rails' titles came in the lower divisions. (Although rails did win a NT at Loyola MD, which is damn impressive.)

I also think you have to make a distinction about winning in DI earlier in a new world vs. once it's already established. I won a title at Western Mich fairly early in Tark, I don't consider that as impressive as if I'd have accomplished the same feat 10-15 seasons later.

hmmm i dont mean to belittle d2 and d3 titles and the impressive runs of rails (and others?) those accomplishments are awesome in thier own right.

but, i do think D1 is a different animal. and, in most cases, it is tougher to string together wins in D1. I know that is not allways true...but usually D1means tougher competiion. and the other thing that is no small issue is early entries. in d2 and d3 you can set yourself up to have a consistently good team (though i admit that its still tough to win it all year after year with a balanced roster) in D1 you are constantly fighting that unknown variable that can upset the apple cart at any time.

I prefer to just put D1 in a complete different category from d2 and d3. i hope that doesnt come across as belittling the accomplishment of winning at the lower levels.

So, if we want to start discussing dynasties and uberdynasties at d2 and d3, we can do that. but i would rather not try to compare them with D1

I would agree with D1 being harder to maintain a dynasty OD, but I would also agree with Dalter that early D1 titles have to be discounted slightly (if only ever so slightly) simply due to the fact that the first coaches to arrive in D1 in a new world are playing mostly Sims.

I, personally, would rate these particular D1 titles at maybe a notch slightly lower than D2 or D3 titles in established worlds for this reason.

And as someone who consistently ran into Rails' West Chester buzzsaw (and I had some VERY good teams at Northeastern State during his amazing run), I can tell you for a fact that those teams were definitely legit and could have competed with any D2 team in any world in any season.
