Trying to sign a guy to a long term contract because it will be cheaper then letting him go to arbitration. Tried multiple different contract structures with no success. Finally tried just giving him what he is asking and that hasn't worked either. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help.

Does he have a comment in the comment box that he doesnt want to be signed just to be traded? If so, give him a no trade clause.

Yes on both accounts. asking for 5yrs $35mil and have given him 5 years at $7mil per with a no trade clause. However the only thing I have been putting in each time is a team option for the last year. Would this make that big of a difference?

yes it would -- make it a mutual option and it might work. Otherwise, you will have to take the option out altogether.

Another idea is give him 10MM Bonus and then 5MM a yr for 5 yrs same money just structured different and offer the mutual option players don't seem to like the team option but will jump on the mutual.
