Conference movement? Topic

Would this ever be a possibility?

Because it would help solve the problem of powerhouse programs in smaller conferences never getting a respectable prestige because their conference prestige was too low.

It could also save coaches from getting fired (in a sense), if instead of them getting fired their team just gets booted from the Big Ten to the Missouri Valley Conference or from the Pac-10 to the WAC, but they still get to keep their job.

But yeah, I don't know, it just seems like it would be cool if you could build up a powerhouse program at a school like Northern Iowa and after ten consecutive seasons of making the NT (and making a considerable run in at least several of those NT appearances) you'd get rewarded by replacing a terrible Northwestern program and getting a shot at playing in a big time conference like the Big Ten.

While the Northwestern coach would then be faced with an easier task of winning the Missouri Valley Conference and would either have to build his team back up to get them back into a major conference or would simply have to build up a solid reputation so he could get a job at a more respectable program.

I don't know how easy this would be to program, but I have some background in programming and know it wouldn't be an impossible task (that and I've seen it in other sims), but would this be something the majority of HDers would be interested in? And if so, would it ever be a possible addition to the game?

Sure brings up some interesting possibilities, especially if the power teams keep dropping.....

Duke playing home-and-away with conference mates Liberty or Davidson;

Ohio State battling Youngstown for the MAC championship;

UCLA in the same conference with Sacramento St.

Now, if you want some fireworks, let the conference coaches VOTE to kick schools out and bring in new members. LOL

I think it's a great idea. But I think it would need a ton of testing to be sure that conferences don't just get totally screwed up after a 10 or 20 seasons.

There's a reason it's free.

I'm a little confused as to why you would want the college basketball sim to be nothing like college basketball? "Conference prestige" - which as I understand it doesn't exist but is really a pseudonym for baseline prestige - reflects the reality of the college basketball world. Honestly, looking at NT results it doesn't really look like the distribution of wins between big programs and small programs is at all unrealistic - if anything, smaller schools are more likely to build successful programs in HD than in real life.

The title of this thread, in and of itself, shows this is a poor idea.

I really like this.......that would add a really interesting element to D1. There would have to be reasonable respect for geography, however.........for instance, Butler shouldn't be joining the Pac-10.

This is by far the dumbest idea i've heard for hoops dynasty. It would make this game even less like real life than it actually is.
They sould just move the conferences like how it is irl instead of having fresno and hawaii in the pac-10 for example and make the real WAC conference, and so fourth.

This sounds like the idea that was floated earlier this year in MLB about teams changing divisions every season based on certain criteria...which is also a terrible idea.
