close/far from home Topic

Any one know if we have ever been told what Close is or how far is far?

Or is it relative. Like a Far from home guy would rather goto a school 250 miles away vs. one 50 miles away if those are the 2 battling?

I don't know for sure, but I would think far from home would mean > 1000 miles and that 250 and 50 would both be considered close to home.

I would say in DIII anything > 400 would be far from home. But that depends on the teams budget as well. In the other divisions it probably increases, but thats because the budgets are bigger.

In DIII I dont usually recruit kids over 500 from me.

That seems extreme. I divide it at the 360-mile price jump, but I woudn't be surprised if far doesn't kick in until 500.

I mean, I'm from Chicago originally. 360 miles is Minnesota or Kentucky, 500-550 is Virginia Tech or Kansas. So actually, yeah, I'd say that 360 is neutral and 500 is "far from home" if it proceeds logically, which I'm sure it doesn't.

I remember hearing 300 miles was the breaking point, anything closer was close to home and anything further was far from home. Don't know how true that is. It depends if there is a neutral range, because I don't really consider 250 miles being close to home, I'm from NYC and I went to school in Rhode Island it's only about 180 miles away but in no way did I consider that close to home.

So, basically we have zero idea what the engine actually uses. Well, time to learn i guess.

I thought close to home preference was somewhere in the 170 mile range for recruiting. Not sure if that was from a dev chat or if I completely pulled that out of thin air.
