Free agent question Topic

I'm in the middle of a season and a guy who will be a free agent next year has already told me he's going free agent without even giving me a chance to sign him. Two questions.

1. Will he give me a chance before next season starts or will I get the same message after rollover?

2. If I trade him might he sign with the team I trade him too or will he tell the new team the same thing?

Thanks in advance for any info.

1. It depends why he's testing free agency. If, for example, he dislikes you because you beat him in arb 3 times, he won't change his mind. However, if he's testing the market because he thinks he can get better money for his skills, he may change his mind if his overall rating decreases between this season and next.

2. Again, it depends on his rationale for leaving, but you can pretty much take #1 and reverse the answers. If he hates your team, he may sign with the team he gets dealt to. If he wants to just go get a better contract for his talents, the new team may be out of luck (but could always get lucky and have him change his mind).

In my experience if a player indicates they are fa bound mid-season they will stay fa bound unless his ratings decrease after rollover. That is the only way a change of heart will be had, I believe.
