Does pos. played impact fielding dev? Topic

Do fielders develop differently if you play them at tougher positions?

All things (including age, years pro, playing time and coaches, etc.) equal will a player develop the same if you play him at 1B as if you play him at SS?

Does IF vs. OF develop differently, in terms of where you play the guy?

Do DH's not develop defensively?

And I don't mean guys that are 20/20/20/20 as DH. I mean if you have a guy with all 80s and DH him all year, would he still gain fielding points as if you played him at SS? If not, how big of a hit does he take? A small one? Does he not develop fielding at all?

I'm assuming young minor leaguers here, guys still in the development curve. Thanks for any insight!

I would add that I'm asking because I have a stacked defensive team in AA, and want to know if I'm going to hurt a future LF by DHing him a bunch, future 2B by playing them in LF/RF/1B, etc..

Yes, according to admin but not substantiated by any deep analysis

No.

Yes.

Not proven one way or the other.

No, it hasn't been quantified, I said "it hasn't been quantified", for the third time, "it hasn't been quantified", are you not listening?

Lol, thanks.

This guy Victor Guerrero might be a data point that says it doesn't matter. He's barely played the field since the end of season 10, and he improved a fair amount in the field even last year when he DH'd exclusively, he gained 2 points of PC. Maybe he would have improved more if he'd caught every day, who knows. Wish I had the time to systematically study it.

Might have helped to check the ratings of your FI coach too...

I had an 88 FI for his entire career. He finally retired before this season.
