Any interest in getting the EOL going? Topic

I loved the EOL - it was such a great league. I don't know who ran it before monkee, but it's been a really long time since it was run.

Anybody interested in doing it again? I don't mind running it if there seems to be a good amount of interest.

For those who don't know what the EOL was...

Equal Opportunity League: Pick a franchise (via draft). Your team is built of players that played for your franchise at some point in their careers. Here's where the "equal" part comes in... You can use any season. So, instead of a wobbling, end of days Hakeem Olajuwon - the Toronto Raptors can indeed use the dream. Ewing won't wobble around on a bad knee for the Magic - he's back to all-nba form. The Celtics now have the Glove at his prime... and so forth.

(monkee had this really great little intro with a phone booth and pictures of the players in the closing team uniforms, sorry, I couldn't find it, so I guess it's more than a year since we did it).

Typically, draft order to pick franchises is determined by the previous year: The champ picks first, then it goes from worst record on... new owners come in at the back of the pack.

Since it's been so long, I figure (if we do this), we'll do it the old fashioned way (lottery) for the initial league.

There are several really great things about this league... It somewhat narrows down who you see out there... you no longer see a league with 6 Wilts... at most you see 3. You do see a lot of Moses and Rodman, as they played with a lot of franchises, but it's not quite so bad as an OL. You can also bust out your favorite players and put them with a winning line-up. The best part of all, though, is every franchise has a legitimate shot to win. Even the expansions... Here's why:

The newer teams are grouped together. The Bobcats, Heat and Hornets are considered one franchise. There can be up to 3 of this franchise in the league. The Magic, Raptors, Grizzlies and Timberwolves are also considered one franchise. There can be 4 of this franchise in the league. I won an EOL in this version of the sim using that conglomeration, so I know it can be done. At the same time, powerhouse franchises like LA and PHI are still easily viable.

The original cap for this league was $52M. I think that is too much in the current sim, as players are far far cheaper than they were back when this league ran more often. I'd like to lower it to $47M. I firmly believe every franchise has a shot with that cap, and you can still break out and use guys you aren't used to using in a normal $42M league.

(the original league also had a strict team name policy. I'd like to at least keep it where you either use the City or the Mascot, but not necessarily both. If we get enough interest in the league, I'll open that up for discussion).

So... What say you?

I created the EOL and it because I was off the site altogether for awhile and handed it off to monkee.

ah.
Wanna start it up again then? Or at least be interested in joining if I do?

Okay, I mean the NBA sim seems pretty down right now.

Do you think it would fill?

I think it'll fill. Might take a little while, but it'll be worth the couple week wait.
