Scouting trip - interpreting results Topic

How much stock is there in the scouting trip summary statement: "could be an all-american" "could contribute at the next level with maybe a redshirt" statements?

I'm looking at a DII recruit who seems average at best, maybe even DIII level, but getting the "all-american at DII" and "could contribute at DI level" statements on the scouting trip. Are those statements indicating something that is not apparent from the FSS report and ratings or are they merely empty statements.

empty statements. You'll get similar glowing reports with almost every eval.

The 'could contribute with a redshirt' may mean that's he's more agreeable to being redshirting.

pretty much empty. Can indicate how good a player is relative to his level, in a sense of how easy to drop down/pull down.
