Advantages:
• Searches only bring up players who are available and meet league rules. No searching through pages of forum posts to make sure the guy you want hasn't been taken since the last time the draft summary was updated.
• No double drafting of players because of commissioner errors on draft lists.
• Owners have to buy and enter their teams and thus can't decide three rounds into the draft that they will bail.
• Automatic sitemail or (if league is set up for it, which I always do) email notification when it's time to make picks.
Disadvantages:
• If an owner vanishes early in the draft, you end up with a horrible team. I've been in about 20 online draft leagues and have seen this happen once. In a 24-team league, it's no more than a minor annoyance since 3 teams get 14 easy games and the other 8 in the league get 12.
• No easy way to proxy for an owner who will be away for part of the draft.
Overall, I greatly prefer the online draft mainly so I don't have to compare every search I do with a list of players taken.
Either way there's always the chance of a wait after the draft is done. In this case, we're waiting for dahs to return or admin to finish up the draft that was completed Sunday. In toddleduc's 80s draft, the clock ran out on the last round last Thursday and we're still waiting for four players to get their teams in. My experience is that the online draft leagues generally get started much more quickly, mostly because owners have already bought and entered their teams at least into the draft center.
