So what is the secret to get players to sign. They always say keep calling me or send me more info.So what do they want is it all about just spending a lot on calls. Then offer a scholarship I have made all the calls.Sent all the letter, offered mins per game and scholarship after they say they like my team and they still don't sign.I had a player send me a letter saying he wanted to come to my school. So I sent him a call and scholarship and he said keep calling which I did. Then he signed with some other team.So do you have to make home visits and campus visit and scout them.Come on some one throw me a bone even as it is to late spent all my money on scholarship phone cal and letter. After the way this went don't know if I will play again.Oh and another mistake I made picking a team that needed 9 players bad very bad.Now 1 player signed 3 returns no money looks like 8 walkon and 0-26.LOL some tell me some thing please thanks Jammie

YOU need to offer a home visit or Campus visit, possibly more than one.

Hey, you're playing at Bethel...that's the house of God. Miracles can happen.

Try to recruit players within 70 miles if possible. Its cheaper (the home visits/campus visits cost less.)
What I do first is call the coaches to see what offense/defense the player ran in high school and if it/they are compatible with my offense and/or defense or not. That way the player usually starts out with a C IQ instead of a D- or F.

1. call coach and get his response to off & def sets

2. send letter to guys that fit your system

3. call players who respond to the letter & get their response.

4. scout players who give you a somewhat favorable response

5. home visit players that you get a good scouting report from

6. call players you visited to get their follow-up of your visit

7. offer schollies to guys you get good follow ups from.

8. now it gets dicey. Either they sign with you, you're first on their maybe list, or you're a backup option.

9. call player if you're on the maybe list or a backup.

10. if they still haven't said yes, either they are still waiting on another school to offer them a schollie (D11 school or a D111 team with a higher prestige than yours, they want a campus visit, or they just don't want to commit to anybody just yet.

11. maybe another call, another scouting trip, or another home visit to show that you're still interested.

By the time you get to step 9, you ought to know what kind of chance you have with him, or if you're wasting your money and need to go after somebody else.

The off er plus a promised start will work for a lot of players in d3. If you have 110/220/330 dollars , try it for as many players as possible if they are playable on a starting 5. It beats taking 8 walkons, but remember you may be stuck with them for 4 years, so be careful.

Chin up, it was one bad learning experience, but a learning experience just the same. Next season you'll have a lot of openings, so here's a few things to remember-

1- You only get money for 6 scholarships, so you have to focus on fewer guys. I'm purely guessing, but I think you may have spread out too much money among too many. Personally, I determine one target per spot, 1 backup per spot, and only spend money on the targets unless I lose that battle.
2- Stay close, take the ones you can get. If a DII or better/closer to the player DIII team has a guy considering, back off at the DIII level- especially compounded with your high number of slots, you can't afford battles at DIII.
3- Find someone better than me to give you advice- either through the already posted stuff or seeking out a mentor.

I would just hate to see you have played a lot of WIS, and give up completely on HD because of one bad experience. People here will help you, you just have to ask/look for it.

I know that it is a little late for this season but like has been said, stick around there are many people willing to help. Seek them out. Send some people sitemails asking questions, or post them here in the forums. So of the help you get will be useful others may not.

Check out this guide for newbies http://whatifsports.com/forums/threads.asp?ForumID=30&TopicID=329367&PagePosition=1
It should help you some.

Also I believe Oldresorter has/had a thread with basic help for newbies. I can't seem to find it right now but it is good as well. Also, scoure the help and the guides that WIS offwers, they will help you in the right direction.

Don't worry not all is lost. hang in there. It seems like you have learned a lot already. Everyone just starting this game goes through similar problems, you will get it. and when you do it will be a lot of fun.

If you don't have any attachment to this school, you may be better served moving to another school with only 1or 2 scholarships at the end of the year. Recruiting can be very frustrating but is also one of the most rewarding parts of the game.
