I run Maryland in Allen. It's a relatively high profile program, and I've done quite well there for a long time now. I don't frequent the forums, heck I'll go days without even looking at my own Coaches Corner. But I just submitted a ticket about the new engine, and it goes something like this....
I present for you the curious case of Zachary Miller. Good ol' Zac, Senior PG, with what I would consider a very proficient defensive IQ (A), Defense rating (96), and Speed rating (98) (granted, an average athletic rating of 56), posted this last year:
Yr. GP GS MIN FG% FG3% FT% OREB REB AST TO STL BLK PF PTS
41 29 29 24.0 .424 .255 .611 0.6 2.0 3.6 2.6 1.6 0.0 1.3 6.2
Not stellar, but serviceable. You'll note the personal fouls average of 1.3. Seems the new engine has made poor Zac, well, something of a psychopath. He's fouled out of two games (of 4) with this:
Yr. GP GS MIN FG% FG3% FT% OREB REB AST TO STL BLK PF PTS
42 4 4 23.0 .520 .375 .500 0.8 1.3 3.0 1.0 1.8 0.0 4.3 8.3
FWIW, from what I can tell after almost 4,000 HD games, he has yet to play against another PG who distinctly outclasses him this season. Yet he's committed 17 fouls in 4 games (92 minutes). I won't argue the FCP wasn't too strong in the old engine. Clearly, it was a favorite for a reason. That being said, to more than triple the PF's per game, for a solid and competent player, seems rather, um, heavy handed. At best.
I'll also grant that 4 games is a very small sample. Or is it?
