he's the tackling dummy from the football team i guess....he is just a big lump of ****...you used to be able to cut walkons way back when.....but they stopped that

i have argued this before, but i don't think any walk on should be worse than a 330 to 350 rated player. here's my reasoning for this:

for 6 years, i used to work part time at a rec center. we often had college basketball players in playing pick-up games; you would rarely see a DI or the occasional DII player but we had a few DIII players (most from a DIII team in this game, btw) who lived in the area who would play often.

if i had a break or if they needed another body to run a game, i would sometimes play with them. as an aside, i played only one season of organized basketball my entire life, but i am in pretty good shape and know enough about the game. on these few attributes alone, i could hang with the DIII guys. there was a definitely skill level difference, but it's not that noticeable.

my point is this - if someone in decent physical condition who plays basketball a bit can nearly hang with DIII guys, a walk-on would be BETTER than me on a team of any level. even a bad walk-on playing for a DIII team in this game should not be any worse than a 330ish rated player. it is laughable the walk-ons could have a rating as poor as 194. even a scrub like me would probably merit a rating in the low 300s.

We used to occasionally get walk on's that turned into decent players if you gave them a scholly. I miss that aspect of the game. Had 1 guy even make all conference his redshirt senior season. He was obviously a rare case, but I think those random diamonds in the rough really added something.

There is such a simple fix. After recruiting, take all the players that were not signed. The highest rated player who was unsigned would go to the highest prestige D1 school who needs a walk on. Then go down the line till all schools are filled up. I am pretty sure that there are enough recruits generated to do this. I heard at one time that there are as many generated recruits as spots open. This would make far too much sense, though.

You would have D1 schools getting walkons in the 500+range, D2 would get 400-500ish, D3 with 300-400 ratings. I think that would be a better depiction of how things are in real life.

SEVERAL recruits will pass up a scholly to go to a MAC type school in order to walk on to a BCS school. For example take Elisha Justice (Walk on to UL) or Jarred Polson (Walk on to UK). Both could have played for an Akron/Morehead St type school but decided to walk on to a big school instead.

right now the non-recruited guys go juco. i'd be ok with some of the lower-rated players who go unsigned walking on, but you can't take that much away from the juco ranks.

Improving the quality of walk-ons (or assigning unsigned players as walk ons) would have the added benefit of improving the quality of SIM AI teams. I think the game would be improved if the SIM AIs weren't almost universally automatic wins vs players.

They can just generate JUCO players instead of keeping recruits in the pool. Would have little affect on the recruiting process. I am with powerofpig here. That guy is a GENIUS.

lol the pigs are aligning...?

they guys that you recruit tho that don't get signed would no longer be available to recruit the next season...it would be weird to see your walkon get recruited by another team
