You've got to check the demands of the players looking for pro contracts. I've found, it's about a 50/50 mix of pro-rated $327K and $55K.

Not true. I've found players as cheap as $4,000 right after the draft. Most of them are between $27k and $175k.

$175k would be the pro-rated portion of $327k after the draft.

You say that the tryout camp pool has only pitchers. Says who? They're "pitchers" only because they are designated as such, not because they have any particular talent for it. You could sign them and simply change their positions so that they are treated as crappy hitters rather than crappy pitchers in rookie league.

Now, if you did that, you would avoid paying rookie bonus demands (which was a concern for you) and you would also take the decision out of Simmy's/Sparky's hands. You might also go winless in rookie league though, so check with your World and see how much blowback you would face if that happened
I tried turning try-out camp pitchers into position players as test. They were all at 0% in about 10 games. The fatigue factor still reads them as pitchers.

After the draft, a lot of teams will place former draft picks lingering away in their rookie league on waivers to open up room for their new draft picks. Go claim a couple of them.

Another option that I haven't seen listed yet: certainly you have to have some fodder in low-A/high-A that you can move back down to fill a role. A guy or two that's never going to move up another level and isn't seeing much time now that can be put at risk of retiring.

If you don't want to pay full bonuses for lower end amatuer DPs, offer them 10% less that they are asking. Works most of the time.
