Class Size Question Topic

I recruited the maximum six freshman this past season, with one transfer and two walk-ons (I had 9 open scholarships).

1) As I understand it, from the FAQ and forum posts, I would (next season) not be allowed to recruit a transfer/Juco with 3 years of eligibility because he would be deemed a sophomore and so - along with the 6 recruited freshman this season - that would be a class of 7. Is that correct?

2) If (1) is correct, could I redshirt one of my current freshman at the start of his sophomore season and then recruit a transfer/Juco with 3 years ? Or would that only make it so I could recruit a transfer/Juco with 2 years the season after next?

1 is correct.
2 no. you can't recruit more of a class when you have 6 in it. so during his soph year, even while redshirting, he is still a soph. the next year you could recruit a jr. juco or transfer, because you would now only have 5 jrs. you could redshirt one of them this year and recruit a soph next year.

Unfortunately, this season has already begun and they have all played some. Is there any way (other than revoking a scholarship) to make recruiting the 3-year transfer/Juco next season a possibility?

It's unlikely for a player to transfer away after freshman year, right? Even if I cut his PT now?

If not, how bad of a hit might I expect if I revoked a scholarship?

no way that I can think of, unless one of them gets hurt quick and gets a medical redshirt this season, which is something I've heard of but never seen. Why are you so intent on getting a soph next season? did one get away and go juco on you?

If you cut a scholarship of a guy you recruit it is a decent hit to your reputation. I'd advise recruiting someone else next time around.

ETA: did you promise a start or playing time? if you fail to deliver he might transfer, but your rep take a hit from that too...

No, no promises except to the Sr. Transfer. Right now, I'm transitioning into a zone base D, but at getting killed on the glass against the really good teams. They'd probably beat me anyway, but it has highlighted the fact I really need a strong rebounding presence at PF, along with my C, to play Zone effectively against the upper-echelon.

From my initial search for the up-coming season, it seems as though there are many more 3-year options who would fit that role than HS players, so I was hoping to be able to snag one of them.

And yes, there is one in particular that "got away" and went Juco because I didn't realize the 6-player cap per class and so another freshman signed before the guy I really wanted, even though he was "considering" only me.
