My turn for a what’s wrong with my team? Topic

I knew this team would struggle as it is a pretty young team 3 fresh 4 soph and a walk on which is especially bad with the new engine, but I am just getting killed this year.

Would anyone try anything different with lineups than I am already doing. I have never had a struggle like this in my 15 or so seasons and it is especially frustrating because I joined this world in an effort to get to D1 as quickly as possible so I am not tempted to try D1 in Allen where I like my D2 team.

I am switching my D to zone which will work out for me next year, I tried running it once and press/zone once but that didn't work out well for me so I am interested in getting some ideas to play around with in what I expect to be a lost season at this point. I think the 7 players I have gotten in the last 2 seasons are good and my team will turn around but I don't want to win 2 games this year.

All those views and no response? I'm sure these threads get annoying, but I'd like to hear if anyone has any ideas or of my thinking that my team is just young and will be better eventually is the only reality.

I always hate taking over teams with other people's players, even when they are good I feel like I lose with them.

I would start Mason over Helm. It may be a lost season so the extra minutes will help him develop quicker. I also believe Mason is the better player anyway.

I wanted to start Mason, he was my prized recruit last season but I figured with my team struggling with IQ and fouls already that starting him might be a problem. I guess beign 1-6 it can't get much worse anyway though.

I wouldn't run the hcp.

I have thought about going to just man but none of my DEF ratings are that high. I suppose I have to get out of the old engine mindset though and realize the low ratings are not helping in the hcp either.

Like I said the team is in the middle of a switch to zone, so this year I am trying out all sorts of defensive combos.

I would agree about switching to Mason. Your current guards are pretty slow. I'd say your real problem is with your post players, though. You have a serious lack of depth in big men and the ones you have aren't all that talented. Your really lucky Shultis is only turning it over 1.7 times per game so far. Also you have only 1 decent rebounder with no support. Your getting beaten on the boards so far and could be dominated by average and above average rebounding teams. Unfortunately there's not much you can do about it since you just don't have the rebounding talent on your team.

Of course, I've never even played in D2, so take my opinion with a grain or 2 of salt.

Ya the big men depth is a problem. When I took over the team there were 2 Srs and 2 sophomores and I didn't land any big men.

This year I wanted 2 but only could get 1 and had to take a walk on because 3 different teams entered battles for guys I wanted so I obviously couldn't battle for all 3 of them. Crum is going to be a stud but I obviously need more.

I have gotten some really good recruits the last 2 years, I am just surprised at the players I had over not being that good. The coach before me had some success but didn't seem to leave me with much in terms of players with potential, they were all maxed out early.
