How do U get batters’ Contact to Develop? Topic

Any tips? I see player after player on my teams, career after career whose Contact stalls at about 3-7 points under projections.

Does hitting coach discipline help? Anything help?

I see.

Lots of players don't hit their projections; the majority, in fact. Contact goes up the same way as batting splits-- good coaching and regular playing time at the appropriate levels.

When looking at a player's projections, take 5-7 points off each number and consider those his more realistic target projections (with good makeup). I consider projections in this game to be more like a "ceiling" in real life, eg. "Matt Weiters COULD be the next Ivan Rodriguez [but likely will be worse in the end]." The only time you should be more literal with projections is if a player has insanely high makeup & health (and you plan to develop him correctly), or if the projected rating is close to his current rating.

And that's the long version of "Maybe your projections aren't 100% accurate" that you've ignored for oh so many years.

Which, of course, is why no one bothered to respond.

MikeT23, (why do I still respond to this guy's posts?) I understand that projections are not 100% "accurate" compared to what things generally end up being.

But back to my issue: I'm finding that Contact is a serious lagger, compared to the other ratings, sometimes by double digits.

Has anyone found that to be true, too? And have you found a solution in the kinds of coaches you choose?

(It is another issue, that HBD scouts are so oddly and consistently optimistic. That is not the subject of this thread.)

No, and n/a.

You respond to my posts because, as evidenced by the massive response you got in this thread, virtually no one else will bother with you. Had prezuiwf not responded, I'd have let it be.

I set hit and run to "every time there's a man on 1st" and bunt all the way up too. That way my guys are practicing contact every time they come up.

I lead the league in sacrifices, double plays hit into and scored 100 runs less than anyone else. But I got HUGE increases in contact ratings. The problem was that their splits actually regressed because no one was looking to drive the ball and after rollover, most of the players who got 500 at bats had their power ratings erode by 3-7 points.

There's a trade off to be made everywhere, Arlen. Good luck solving this riddle.

His post was purely sarcastic; doing that stuff will not affect your team at all.

Sounds like you've got the "see" part nailed. You're halfway there. Good luck.
