Player A:

ATH 25
SPD 59
LP 37
PER 2
BH 9
PA 44
STA 98
FT B

PPG 12.7 FG% 47.1

Player B:

ATH 74
SPD 59
LP 95
PER 35
BH 1
PA 32
STA 85
FT C-

PPG 10.2 FG% 45.1

Both are centers in the same DII conference. Player A is a senior and player B is a junior. Both have at least A- IQ in their respective offenses. How on earth is Player A outperforming player B?

What teams? What world? For all we know, player A is the best scorer on his team.

Allen World, DII. Player A is Anderson College, player B is Erskine College. Anderson is one of the most storied teams in Allen World, and this player has the lowest LP of any front court player on the team.

I think the school is irrelevant. Even if he was their best scoring option, how would that explain the better FG%?

homrbush, i am surprised your guy is not shooting a higher % as well. the offensive rebound numbers are similar (meaning they get nearly the same amount of easy putbacks). the only thing i can think of is that your guy might take more shots while tired because of the press.

I think the more important stat is offensive efficiency, or points per shot. this is one of the best indications of how well each player is doing.

Player A - 1.178 - below average (anything below 1.2 is not so great)
Player B (your guy) - 1.294 - pretty average, but much better than Player A

your guy is getting to the foul line a bit more than Player A. if your guy had a better FT %, he'd be a very efficient player and would probably be scoring a couple more PPG.

Yeah, not much logic that can be used to answer your question. About the only thing I can throw out is that Player B is playing with a Frosh PG and a Soph SG, which could be hindering his ability to get good shots.

Also, Player A is a great rebounder and very well could be getting the majority of his points cleaning up around the basket, which would help his FG%.

Player B should be an offensive stud for DII, though, no matter how you cut it.

fussy - good point regarding the young guards. that's definitely playing a factor.

Homer,

I've got a similar player skill-wise in DII Allen. He's averaging 19.6 ppg right now. Sometimes it's just a crap shoot in HD.

The player:

Both guards were redshirted (Pimentel, the true soph SG plays SF), and have B to B+ IQ's.

Good point on the points per shot. I never thought to look at that. My starting SG, Delaney, has performed better than expected, and has been taking on an increased distribution as the season has been playing out.

Player A obviously shouldn't be as good as he's been, but I think you need to get your guy more shots. He's taking like 8 shots a game, no reason not to get him at least 11 or 12.

His distro is almost always in the 20's, but he is drawing a lot of fouls, whcih keeps the shot attempts down.
