Does anybody know how a player's first (non-full) season is factored into player development years? I know that the longer a player is a professional the slower his development will be-- however, does that first year count as a "development year" no matter what? If I sign an IFA during spring training, and then I sign an identical IFA during the last week of the regular season, will the development trajectories of both players treat that first season the same way with regard to when their development will slow down?

Thanks!

I think the earlier IFA will develop better since he had closer to a full year to develop.

But that is pure and total speculation with no factual reasoning behind it.

I'm pretty confident that this is correct.

it's another great question...

it could be that player's start to slow after a certain amount of days as a pro rather than x amount of years...

another great question that is really tough to get the answer

I've always felt that draftees and IFA don't develop "properly" in their first season. Since I have 0 ADV, I have to follow development patterns. Take that for what it's worth.

So by that logic, would you rather take an IFA late (and thus, not waste a year of "improper" development), or early, to maximize any development they can get?

I really have no idea... but I think I would lean toward getting them early.

Early. It doesn't change the way they develop in Year 2. It's just that a guy may develop 3 points in half of Y1, 9 points in Y2 and 5 points in Y3. Simple math, and development patterns, say that's not "normal".
