....Any suggestions aside from switching out of a press defense? After commiting 70 fouls over the last 2 games, and having 5 players foul out of my most recent game, I'm a little frustrated!

I've been trying to develop the IQ's of my players in the zone as well so I can just play halfcourt press and then zone, and ultimately perhaps just zone in order to commit fewer fouls, but it hasn't helped much yet.

Am I on the right track with that or is there something else I should be trying?

Thanks for your feedback!

It depends greatly on the SPD, STA, DEF, and IQ of your players.
I draw plenty of fouls against M2M and Zone simply b/c I've got fast players with high IQs in the offense. So, press may not be most significant factor for your foul trouble.

For D3 I have I would guess pretty decent speed/athleticism (avg 30/50)

My IQ's are relatively low because I have 6 freshmen that all play fairly significant minutes.

Stamina and iq seem to be head and shoulders above anything else when determining the effectiveness of a press...so just dump minutes into conditioning and iq and you should right the ship before the season is done.

Uptempo Press with low IQs and below average stamina is a recipe for disaster.

Play either normal or maybe even slowdown. Make sure to substitue by fatigue (probably set everyone to fairly fresh). Your guys are playing most of the 2nd half at very tired.

Also, your last game (the OT game) there were a lot of fouls, mainly due to you fouling at the end of the game when you were behind. Otherwise, it was not really too bad.

ok, some good ideas for me to try. out of curiosity, what is a ballpark for what is considered good or average stamina at the D3 level?

A D3 team needs 80+ stamina players just like a D1 team if they are going to press. Freshmen can have lower stamina if they have average or excellent potential in stamina but I would stay away from recruits who are sub 50 stamina.
