Recruiting Question(s) Topic

1. Does the star rating system mean much (1 star, 2 star, etc..)?

2. Does the AC ratings of Mid Major, Low major, etc..mean much?

3. Can you sign ineligible players (sit out a year and play)?

4. If you find a tall (6-4+) SG that rebounds, will they be able to function as SF as well as a SF??

1) window dressing. They mean nothing.

2) Nope. Mean nothing

3) Yeah. Sometimes they go JUCO, somtimes they sit out, sometimes they become eligible and play that season.

4) Size don't matter, but if he has the ratings to play SF then he can play SF.

Before potential, the star ratings were more important. However, they didn't change the star-ranking system to reflect potential.

What do you mean by potential?

Under the recruiting tab you can scout a state. Once you have done this you can see all of the players from that state. The potential of the player is revealed when you search those players. Make sure you switch from "General" view to "Ratings" view on your search.

Players with a green color will improve the most, players with black numbers follow and a catagory in red means they will gain very little. As for how much each can improve based on color varies and others on the board can help a little more.

0-6 points of growth for low potential, anywhere from 7-19 for mid potential, and 20+ for high potential.

1.) does mean a little. It gives you an indication on what prospect you have a shot at recruiting if you are a low prestige division 1 school. It's a huge help to me.

Is WE factored into the potential ratings, or does the coach have to factor that in....like high potential, but a 20 WE suggests he want gain as much, or is WE not a part of the equation?

FT% listed---good indicator of what player will do in college?

What jagged said. As a lower prestige school, you'll have severe difficultly landing a 3 star, and 4-5 stars aren't worth the effort in most cases. Therefore, the star system is a bit of insight.

stars are a good first cut - but no more

you will find guys without a star who are better than one and two stars - esp when you adjust for your system and the kids' potential

AGREED- I think the way its like this is because it gives some lower prestige schools a fighting chance to become better to improve on. I've seen 1 star players with way more potential and in some cases better than 3 star players.

The star system is based on where the player is currently, not where he will be in 3-4 seasons. Potential determines where he will be then. The star system also overvalues defense and is therefore misleading especially if you play Press or Zone.

WE is a factor in how quickly a player will reach his potential but will not push him above his cap. If the WE is too low, the player may not reach his potential at all.

FT% and GPA are the only HS stats that are relevant. All the rest is pretty much eye candy. Some coaches put a little weight to PPG but there are so many variables that go into that such as distribution, teammates, quality of opponents that it is pretty unreliable.

FT% is pretty much what you see is what you get. It will improve with high potential though and may improve (depending on the breakpoint) with average potential.

additional recruiting question... how do I successfully recruit players that drop from division II to division III? Do they eventually show up in my recruits list for division III? Or do they stay in the Division II list?

How do I know which ones will sign with me?
6/13/2010 10:21 PM
They will drop onto your DIII list. If you have some you are interested in, send them a phone call, letter or coach call. Then they will contact you when they are ready to drop.

to finish hannibals statement...sending a phone call to get on a player's recruiting effort can mean...you will get a message saying..i don't know what i was thinking, lets talk or guess what i heard, player a didn't get the love, we may have a shot..i always get at least one of these and am able to pull him down without him ever showing up on the d3 projected list.
