Do I pull the redshirt? Topic

My backup guard that plays 23 minutes a game and just broke his arm and is down to 39 health. I wonder if I should pull the redshirt on a guard to help give me depth.

I play fastbreak/press and only have three healthy guards now. They have stamina of 99, 97, and 85.

I scheduled poorly and have a RPI of 31. Most of my remaining teams are against teams I can probably beat but I do not believe I can afford to slipup against any of the bad teams since even the wins are probably not going to help the RPI any.

I guess I could move a SF to guard but both of them have ball handling ratings in the teens.

Can I get by with three guards only? I did earlier with a lesser injury and beat the teams with RPI of 103, 278, 286, 340, and 250. But the 103 team went to overtime so I don't know if I was lucky to have won all those games.

Tough call but I'd go with the 3 guards. I've deliberately played 3 guards, with success, in the past. Put one of SF's at 3rd-string in the event you have another injury or foul trouble

I think at least some folks will go uptempo against you and push your guys into fatigue. Because you run fastbreak, you cant go slow.

a few questions

1. how important is it to redshirt that guy - is he going to be really good or was it a marginal redshirt decision

2. how deep are the next several teams you play - can THEY go uptempo

3. how good are you SF's guard numbers - BH, PASS, SPD, ATH.....

thats what I would be thinking about

I would keep the RS on Thornton, for 3 reasons:

1. Your starting guards are outstanding and have great stamina, so your 3rd guard doesn't have to see that much playing time.
2. Thornton doesn't have the IQ's or stamina to help you much this year anyway.
3. And finally, Burrows is probably only going to be out 5 more games - meaning he's back before the one really tough game you've got in the reg season.

How do you figure he's going to be ready in only 5 more games? Assuming an average of 5 points of improvement per game that would only put him at 64 health (39+25= 64). I would never risk playing a player below 80 health and most coaches agree. I think he is looking at 8-9 games minimum before he is healthy enough to come back.

They have 7 games plus 2 off-days. He should be around 80 by the 1st round of the CT. Even better if you have a 1st round bye

I totally agree with your main point, bhansalid00. I would not pull the R/S.

I totally understand the confusion over the mouseover. It is the same with the trainer's email. The listing of 5 games on the mouseover is very misleading, IMO. The number shown on the mouseover (or email) is only how many days until the player reaches 50% health and can begin practicing again, not until he is 100% healthy. In this particular instance, I have no idea how WIS determined that it would take 5 days when the player is already at 39%. Maybe something has changed with the rate of recovery in this new engine.

As far as the 80% health rating before resuming playing time, that is just a rule of thumb that is commonly used. A few players may be ok at 70%, while others may not be ready at 90%. The bottom line is to make sure to ease them back to prevent further injury. Just remember above all that the players performance will not be at 100% until his health rating is at 100%.

recovery is probably more tied to durability now

Don't pull the RS. The added depth will be offset by Freshman errors and then you lose the RS as well.
