I first posed this idea as one that probably wouldn't work for the LIVE championship. I was right, it didn't - in fact, that championship tournament never got off the ground. Too bad. However, there was some interest shown in this idea as an independent league. So here it is:

One of the big advantages to managing LIVE is that we control the use of our bullpen. In this league, you will take full advantage of that ability. The basic premise is simple: you get 1 point for every game you win, and 1 point for every save a pitcher on your team records. You win the game, great. You win AND someone gets a save? Twice as good!

We'll use the standard WIS league format. The team in each division with the most points wins the division. The remaining team in each league with the most points gets the wildcard.

no WW or trades - play with the guys you bring to the party

6/2 above average AAA
no clones
no DH
all stadiums open

I'm going to set the LIVE min at 50. Keep in mind that playing LIVE enhances your ability to record saves. I seriously doubt anyone with only 50 LIVE will make the playoffs, but if you can pull it off more power to you.

Here is the problem: the format encourages point-shaving.

Yeah. I don't see that as a problem. There's a strategic decision to be made - go for the easier 1-point win or keep it close for the 2-point win.

And I don't see why anyone would try to keep the game close. There's more than one way to get a save.

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. Wasn't saying it so that people who for some reason didn't pick up on it wouldn't think of it...

Cool, got you down. Odd that it sat dead for a week and a half in spite of my keeping it bumped up near the top and as soon as djt posted in the thread about the flaw he saw in the league people started joining...
