How is the test going?
Z - killing a few minutes on the forums - not much has changed here, that is for sure.

I will take a stab at your ? - overall - the new engine is working better than I expected, I get sitemails for top coaches asking my opinion, I stated the new engine was probably about 80% of the way there when it was released, no real significance to that number, just a guess, the 6/10 updates appeared to make things worse, but the 6/16 update was a nice improvement, making the engine much closer to the old one in terms of consistent performance.

Problem is tarek fixed all the little bugs of the old engine over the course of years, none of us has any real idea how many of those will be present in the new engine.

the new engine does at least 5 things better than the old
1 - FCP has been watered down (I don't know to what degree)
2 - slow down offense has been watered down, scores are no longer 30-29, overall scoring is up, and appears to be more realistic
3 - other things like assists and rebounds 'feel' more real life, I have not compared to reality to know for sure
4 - distro works more intuitively than the old system
5 - most important one really - seble knows how to fix this engine, we had almost 2 years of no changes under the old one, I am pretty sure noone was comfortable fixing the old one????

I think once every world gets thru a season or two, more little odd bugs will show I would imagine, and the new recruiting system will not be in full effect on all players all rosters for nearly 5 months, so there are still issues out there, but things are on the right track. The new engine is not a cure all as some thought it might be, lots of the traits of the old engine are still present on the new one, but given the ability to change code, I would guess some nice little upgrades will occur in the future.

i think it might be fair to say the beta phase is either over or nearly over????

Yeah I would agree with the statement that beta phase is over, the engine is ok now, mostly realistic and at least a good as the old one, but it is different.

Other things I would add is:

1.  The -5 defense no longer gives inexplicably awesome results in preventing 3 point shooting.  I believe a Swamphawk -5 dynasty is impossible now.
2.  Stamina seems to be a lot bigger factor in team sucess, no more very tired players scoring all their teams points.  Fatigue really hurts performance on both sides of the ball now, and no 1-2 players can score all their teams points on a good team.
3.  More time will really be needed to tell what will happen with recruit generation.  This has changed a lot and really the effect cannot be judged for another month or 2.

Regarding number three:  And observations on the effects of extreme plus defenses?

I guess my main point was I noticed quite a few changes very quickly once it was released - seems like something a Beta test should have been able to knock out fairly easily. Changes made that quickly after a release shows, that either a beta test was rushed or wasn't ran well, among other things.

I am glad that seble might feel more comfortable fixing this engine. That is good.

Not sure if that will change my mind or not though.

FTA rates are still way up, particularly for guards.  If you have a high SPD+ATH+IQ team then you will draw a ton more fouls than before, whether or not you're playing a pressing team.
My final NT game had 92 possessions in it, which would have been among the highest in real life D1 last year and is the most I've ever seen in a non-OT HD game.  It was a crazy barn-stormer game between 2 presses playing uptempo.  Both teams scored over 110 points and plenty of guys fouled out.

I was off on the scoring, final was 110-107.  Here is the box score if you want a good read.  Note the halfcourt buzzer-beater that still exists (ended first half).

Z, you know I want you to stick around, but for Pete's sake, at least don't let your team go ghost ship. (Or at least your team in our conference!) Not cool!

Yeah sorry. I feel bad about it. I was extremely busy through recruiting and that really killed me.

Solid talent on that team hopefully someone can turn them around.

They inserted PeteC into the beta engine and things went awry.  PeteC is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the beta engine. PeteC is the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite WIS' sincerest efforts has been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led PeteC, inexorably, here.

Hail Hail!!
