If I release someone (I think that answers my own question) on an option year, could they still potentially be a Type A or B Free Agent in this seasons upcoming Free Agent signing period?

So, hypothetically, if he would have had a player option and he declined it, I would receive comp picks, correct?

If the player leaves, you get compensation. If you actively remove him from your team (i.e.: release or decline an option), you get nothing.

I believe the intent is to compensate owners who'd have liked to keep the player in question, but were unable to.
