They also ought to have coaches demands start dropping as re-hire time draws to an end.

I stop reading when a sentence starts with "MLB only spends X" or "in real life..."

HBD has a cap. No one attends the games, thus there is no fan base you have to appease. Players in MLB don't have ratings that visually go up or down when you click on their bio.

It's not MLB, so the statement "MLB teams only spend X on this" is moot.

Cool. If it's not MLB, let's have the guys play football too.

Obviously they are trying to replicate MLB. Why else have a Rule 5 Draft, waivers, free agency - well, limited free agency with ridonkulous home-town discounts, but I digress.

And they only reason they have the cap is make it fair for everyone - although they'd be better off tying revenue to wins, just like prestige in the hoops game. They missed the boat there, and doing that would end tanking once and for all.

No it wouldn't.

Excellent idea.

If you don't mind 40 "need 6 for my league" threads in the classified. "This team has a 65M cap because it was 12-150 last year, but has huge potential. Come and get it!"

Well, it could reset when an alias, errr, new owner takes over.

I think the main point is that the scope of the coach hiring process just doesn't fir the game of HBD. HBD, for the most part, is a long term decision dynasty game. Coach hiring takes place in a very short window over 4 hour cycles. It just doesn't fit.

It works for FAs, because those aren't need to fill holes and there are usually a lot less of them. An owner can pick and chose which ones to go after, or just prepare to not be a part of FAs.

Newbe here.  Has there ever been a post from the Dev group explaining how the stats of a coach actually effect player development?  Maybe a general guideline?  I would think that teams would try to hire better coaches at lower levels because a good young player is cheaper initially than waiting till you get a guy at the MLB level, right?  I mean if I draft a pitcher out of HS and have better than 70's rated pitching coaches in most levels of the minors, I would think that in 2 or 3 years the young kid should be primed and ready for the bigs, and still a bargin relative to a FA at the same skill level.  Similar to what the Mets did with Reyes and Wright, what the Marlins do with almost everyone and what the Rays have been doing the last few years, develop young quality sign them to long term deals and dont make dumb trades.
