My Final Four Puget Sound team in Smith just got trounced by almost 50 points to a team starting 4 guards against us. And we got significantly outrebounded.  At that level, 50 point blowouts shouldn't really be happening, let alone to a gadget team setup. There should have at least been a severe rebounding or blocked shot disadvantage to offset the speed benefits of all the little guys out there on the court.

To be fair, +8 of that rebounding difference was via the bench, where he didn't have any guards getting rebounds...and the SG he started at PF has PF stats...

Been seeing way too many weird results like this.  I'm convinced that the new engine still isn't functioning properly.  Looking at the matchups, I think you got a pretty raw deal Naitch.

Well, you can't just say "he started four guards" without acknowledging that one was a 53 reb guard at D3. Also, you missed 48 fga's and he missed 26 ... and only got outrebounded by 9. It would've been virtually impossible for him not to outrebound you with that kind of disparity in missed shots.

That said, it's become clear to me that something is not right when it comes to rebounding (specifically, I don't think reb rating plays a large enough role, though it very well may be more than that), and I totally agree that two comparably strong teams playing a game w. a 46-pt margin really shouldn't be happening, and it happens too much in the new engine. (It happened in the old engine, too, but not as often.)

On July 1, I asked WIS about the rebounding.  They responded:

"I'm already planning on taking a closer look at rebounding in the next week or so"

Thanks Al, that's good to know. Even if I'd missed so many more shots, my bigger guys should have been able to outrebound him and block and disrupt shots more. With the quality of my team, that gimmicky offense should not have been able to run rough-shod over us like that. It's not the losing that upset me, more the ridiculous margin that exposes a potential glitch in the engine that needs to be worked out.

I agree, I don't think that the team winning was anything out of line, you guys both had good squads, and it should have been a fairly competitive game (in my opinion).  What bothers me about your game more than anything is the margin of victory (or defeat in your case).  Could it happen?  Absolutely.  Did it happen in the old engine?  Absolutely.  Is it happening waaaaay more often in the new engine?  Don't even think it can be argued, that yes, it's happening with much more frequency.

Example, I've got Wake Forest in Wooden (emy ID).  I'm 8-2 with an RPI in the upper 30's and an SOS under 100, so I'm playing pretty decent teams.  Well, my two losses are by 50 and 43 points.  Now granted, those two teams were better than mine and I fully expected to lose, but by margins like that?  Just thought they were a bit much.  I said it earlier, but I'll say it again, I think something's still off in this new engine.  Just my two cents....

Yeah, the results do seem to be weird. I beat a team I lost to earlier in the elite 8. Not a big deal, but I dominated them by 30. In the final four, we won by 32. We scored 69 in the 1st half. They scored 69 the whole game. These results happened even in the old engine, but this late in the NT? I'd expect it in the 1st round and 2nd round when I'm a #1 seed, but c'mon.

dcy, I think what you are saying is the thing that bothers me so much.  As a tournament 2-seed, my team shouldn't be losing by 46-points to a lower seeded team.

Naitch, I've played you enough times over the years to know that you're too good of a coach to be losing by 46 to ANYONE, higher or lower seed, tourney or regular season game.  It stings, believe me I know, but until I'm convinced that the engine is functioning closer to the way it's supposed to, I'm taking all these results with a grain of salt.  Just hope I don't have to wait too long.........

Do not think using a 4 guard line is a "gimmick". My SG at PF was more than capable of playing that spot. And not that height matters, but he was just as big as the  tallest starter.

As far as being out rebounded, the starters were just about even in rebounding, the difference came from the bench. And a .304 shooting % compared .587% certainly did not help your rebounding numbers.

But I do agree 46 points is out of hand, and the Engine still needs a lot of work.

I had a C (59 ATH, 99 reb) at D2 get blanked earlier this season.  On top of that, in the same game, my 70ATH, 59 SP 74 REB PF also got shut out on the boards.  How many times do you think a team's starting post players grab 0 rebounds in a game?  With negative defensive setting?

On the other hand, john, I had an opponent's SF  snare 7 rebounds...with a 13 rating

what reb did your sf have?
