Redshirt improvments... Topic

I have a guy I signed that is full of potential but not worthy of playing this year.  I never mentioned during the recruiting process anything anout a redshirt.  I tried and his 79 WE drops to1.  There were no promises made.  Then I took it off and it went back to normal.  I was messing around and tagged him again with the RS and he dropped to 14.  I thoguht that maybe the hit in WE was random and kept doing it until he had something a little better.  I'll be honest, I got greedy.  It doesnt seem to be working because he still is dropping to 1 WE.

I'm okay with this but it has triggered another question.  If I continue dropping and adding the RS, and the player is going into the games with a pending RS (waiting for the confirmation to hit same cycle as game), would that result in him going the season with a 79 WE and not a WE of 1.

I hope this makes sense.  And thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Just leave the redshirt off. If he is full of potential and his work ethic is a 79 then dropping it to 1 would kill all of his potential.

Yeah, thats the obvious/conservative answer, but as stated above, I'm greedy.  :)

I'm just trying to understand what this stategy will do if nothing.  I'd rather have a guy wtih a ton of potential for 4 year than a guy with a ton of potnetial for 3 years.

That being said, I may end up doing just that leaving the RS off.

A guy with 1 WE will not improve.

But if the guy is going into the game cycle with a pending RS, does he improve with the 1 WE or the 79 WE?

If he has a 1 WE when practices start that is what he improves at.

If I understand correctly I think he means that the player is at 79 WE with a pending RS request before the cycle update. After the cycle update the player has the RS on and is sitting with a 1 WE. I think the question is which WE is taken into account during the actual practice period during the update since presumably the RS request and practice would take place simultaneously.

Boom!!!  You nailed it serb!  So any thoughts?

I don't think anyone could really know without knowing the order that events take place when the cycle update occurs. But you could probably take a guess after a number of cycles based on whether or not the player is showing any development. Especially one that has lots of high potential it should become clear within a few cycles.

Under the new engine, you do not have to do that anyway.  If you do not put him in your depth chart, he does not play.  This way you can get a WE of 79 out of him for improving all year.  You can keep trying to put the RS on him.  I finally got lucky with one of mine with 2 games left he took it.  The first one to do that in a while but a gift horse and all that.

At this point, he is not improving, so I think I will just not play him and try later in teh season to try to slap the RS on him.

any chance that he might get less than a 2.0 on final grades? I had a guy like that..didnt play all season then became academically ineligible...accepted the redshirt right away after that...

If he had a modest HS GPA, maybe you can take away his study hall minutes, which might drop his GPA to the point he's ineligible--and then red shirt him.

They closed the loophole where he could practice at 79 WE and then drop to a 1. He will never take the RS at this point and may get into the game as a mopup guy if you don't try to play him. I would just give up on the RS idea.

I have a player whom I tried to redshirt and he did not like it. I have since removed the RS and would like to know something about the logic in the following situation.

If I leave the RS off and the player does not play at all for the remainder of the season, would the plyer (or is there logic) reconsider the RS at a differnt time in the season?
7/7/2010 12:26 PM
Beef,

Currently the logic does not factor in the time of the season, but it's something we'd like to add at some point.
7/7/2010 1:24 PM
If he becomes ineligible, would that be a factor?
7/7/2010 1:26 PM
No, the logic doesn't change during the season.

Looks like I might be screwed!
