Trade Ethics Question Topic

I did a 3 for 1 swap, told an owner I was going to rest my 3 guys (pretty generous, as i was resting more than him, I thought.) I asked him if he could rest his 1 guy (a reliever, furthermore) because I needed a spot starter as soon as it processed. In addition, I actually told him if he didn't want to rest him, I understood. He gave me a non- committal response like I was the the one in the wrong here, saying, "I'll see what happens." Is it too much to ask for a straight answer so I can know whether I can play my guys? I just thought it was a pretty dick move. Thoughts?

it's pretty much known that if you do a trade you rest the guys in the trade to protect them from injury.

Your request was fairly standard operating procedure since an injury during trade processing wipes out the trade. Unless the other team does not have the depth to rest their player(s), then anyone who doesn't comply is not really someone I would want to be playing with in the same league.

Resting players in a pending trade is a courtesy, not an obligation.

The real issue here is not whether or not the other owner rested his player, it's really his willingness to engage in direct communication with a straght-forward answer for a simple yes/no question.  His unwillingness to do so says more about him than whether he rests the player or not.

What tec said.   I usually rest players while trades process but there are times when it just can't happen(usually pitching).   If asked, a simple yes/no or brief explanation why you can't give a simple yes/no seems to be appropriate.

Well assuming the other guy did the trade b/c he liked what he was getting in return, he's stupid not to rest his guy just to protect him from injury and make sure the deal goes thru.  I've had a deal cancelled out b/c I couldn't get to my minor league team and put a guy on rest that was in an accepted deal before he got injuried for like 15 games.  I still got the deal done later as the injury wasn't huge, but it would have sucked if it was a season long type and pretty much destroyed the trade I had in place.

Risk vs. reward.

Maybe you might feel that sitting the player (or players) could hinder your chances to win your next game or two. You have to weigh that against the slight possibility of injury that could void the trade. If it's practical to sit the player without causing a big adverse impact to your lineup, then it's a courtesy to do so. It also fosters a sense of good will with your trading partner.

If you're talking about minor league prospects, there is NO reason to not rest them.

It's a courtesy for sure, but as long as the other owner isn't purposely doing something like tossing the pitcher on unlimited pitch count or something that is intended to be harmful then just get over it.
