Odd odd recruiting battle Topic

Ok, so posting this under another ID as the recruiting battle I am about to describe is still ongoing, and I don't know what in the heck is going on...

Got into a recruiting battle that I probably shouldn't have been in...but I kinda went all-in anyway.  Was leading for the first few cycles, then at the 8pm cycle, last night, I got the "if i had to give you an answer, it'd be no" email, meaning I've fallen behind.  I just have a small amt of dough left, so I figure cut my losses, and just sign someone on the cheap.  I put NO more recruiting effort into this player.  Then I hit the sack.

Get up this morning, and find a plethora of scholly emails:

at 11pm, suddenly with no effort, I am back ahead.
at 2 am, it's the "could go either way" email
at 5 am, I'm back ahead, again with no effort.

8am just passed, I put minimal effort in and no scholly email this cycle, so I guess I'm still ahead, but who knows?

Looked at the team that I am battling, and nothing has changed with regards to any of the players that are condidering him.

Anybody have any insight?  Seems way effed up to me.

The other coach may have put on a redshirt?

that'd be my guess. he put it on, took it off, then tried it again.

Could also be considering credit

Yeah I bet considering credit kicked in a very close battle.

I just don't see how considering credit has anything to do w/it...one flucuation makes sense, but three?

The redshirt argument, however, seems viable.

It's not a certainty that those emails at 11p, 2a and 5a changed the lead.  What were the emails.  Who are you battling?  human ?

Sometimes the emails are contradicting. I was in a battle and the coach I battled with we shared our info. There was one point when he knew he was clearly behind and threw everything he had at the recruit and from the recruit message he thought he pulled ahead, however I never received a message saying I fell behind. CS also confirmed I never fell behind.  However what did happen was he closed to gap close enough that the recruit gave him responses as if he was ahead. I guess when the 2 schools have put in close to the same amount of effort whoever put in the most recent effort will get the response as if they are in the lead.

in summary, recruits are lying *******. generally a you are ahead by a little email means something like you are behind by a little. also the considering credit argument seems viable to me.

what is considering credit? i am returning to the game i've ever heard this term before?

Without seeing what the exact emails are, there's no way to judge. What you consider a "way ahead" email might be a "it's basically tied" email.

No, Anton, I am a long-time vet with as much experience as most of you...I've seen the scholly emails 100s of times, I know what they mean.  I know the diff b/t the "way ahead" email and "the basically tied" email.  I've never run into this.

Just as an update....I have put no effort into the player after 8am today.  The 2pm email has me back in "could go either way" range, and the 5pm put me "back in the lead."

And, yes, Rails, the battle is with a human.

I'm not sure why you're so reluctant to show the emails.

I would like to see the emails too.  For example, I have quite a bit of experience and a decent amount of success, and until the battle that kmason references above, I could have sworn that the scholarship email:

"Coach, thanks for the scholarship offer - I wish I could sign right now!"

Would have meant that I was in the lead, not a giant lead, but still a lead.

But, based on dealings w/ CS - that is not the case.

Exactly. Same thing happened to me back around season 35 or so in Naismith. Thought I was in the lead, then after I lost the battle was essentially told that the messages I was getting just meant he really liked my school, but didn't preclude him from liking other schools just as much.
