Pitcher Rest Question Topic

If a pitcher is, say, 82(100) the day before his scheduled start, is that any different than 100(100) the day before? Or are all 100's the same?

A pitcher at 100 the day (cycle) before ge starts obviously is not as close to his maximum IP to date so he'll recover more quickly from the next start. In other words, he's being underused. If he's your fourth or fifth starter, that's a good thing. If he's your ace, it means you could be getting more out of him.

so, you're saying there's no downside to throwing a guy as soon as he's back at 100?

The official stance is "no".   Some of us disagree.

The big thing it affects is fatigue and recovery after the game. It's easier to see in guys with lower stamina. You can pitch a reliever and he'll be at 100% for the next game but if you pitch him the same number of pitches in a game where he's already pitched the game before then he'll be below 100%.

which also means he's more fatigued during the game and not pitching as effectively as he could.

WifS' official stance is 100% is 100%.  There is no benefit from an extra day at 100% or no disadvantage to using a pitcher immediately after he hits 100%.

I'm on the same side of the fence as you.
