Done an in-depth study on pitch calling? I've read all the threads where people have compared 2 players' era's, but I'm talking more like a drawn-out statistical analysis. I haven't taken any stats courses for years, so I can't do it even though I would like to. Anybody willing to do it if it hasn't been done before? I personally would award you a Nobel Prize in the category of HBD research.

No, but I'm pretty sure that it isn't a huge deal.

I've started collecting data to do it, but I haven't gotten anywhere near finishing it as life has gotten in the way.  Still, I'd echo what dean says using only anecdotal evidence.  I think it only matters at the extremes (sub-50 and 90+) if it matters at all.

Just go with your gut and if you're in the race stick with it. Invest the time saved taking your wife/girlfriend/partner out to dinner and you'll probably see more immediate rewards.

I did one back when I had about 20 completed seasons.   There have been a lot of changes to the engine since then.   I don't really recall he exact results but it was something like .125 in ERA per 10 rating points.    Essentially the difference between 50 and 60 was nothing while 50 and 90 was significant(taking into account random results and small sample size).    Back then, I wouldn't use a catcher below 50 so I have no idea if there's a significant difference between 40 and 50.  I would guess not.
