Mid-Season Promotion....Do's and Don'ts Topic

Checking to see what some of your guys criteria on promotions and mid-season promotions.  I will give 2 examples: http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3217164 and http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3038445

Just curious on mid-season promotion and promotion to MLB especially when your season is over before the all-star break.  Would hate to lose a year of eligibility.

Follow this rule:

1.) if he can help you win and he gets playing time, promote him (MLB).

He won't lose a year, ie. clock won't tick until next season.

To me, its simple, if you think both HAVE to be on your opening day roster next year, call them up now, as you'll have the same amount of service time towards arbitration if you bring them up now, or if you bring them up next season.  If you can live w/o them on your roster for the first 20 minor league games next year, leave them down in the minors for the rest of this year.  You said you're not going anywhere this season, so if you can squeeze the 20 games w/o them next year, that's 1 more year you'll have them cheap.  Both have room to grow playing the minors, so I don't think you're hurting them by leaving them down there another half season + 20 games.

While I often do what taz21 recommended, those 20 games are pretty important.  10 of them are against your division.   That's 1/3 of your division games.   If the other 10 are against potential contenders, you've dug yourself a hole that might have you "rebuilding" for another year.    You should never think 1/8 of a season isn't important.

Try to project your Opening Day roster for next season.   If those guys are on it, meaning they are important in your plans to capture your division, there's no harm in calling them up now.  Presumably, they'll be playing for better coaching.
